My husband has been laid off his job and our insurance will be finished in sept. I'm pregnant what can we do?
Husband's new job insurance will start in November. We could take Cobra but that's way over our budget right now. I'm due in December.
I am 19 weeks pregnant and having spotting and cramping. Is this normal?
Answers:
Apply for Medicaid for you and baby, if you qualify Medicaid will also cover all Hospital costs when in labor. You can apply for MC+ at the hospital you are to deliver at to make it easier. Good Luck!

I don't know what state you are in but try the county clinics. You will qualify by income. Call and ask what paperwork you need to bring--usually proof that you live in the county, a social security card, birth certificate, and proof of income in the last 2 months. If you have no income then the last 2 paychecks that he recieved. If you have proof that he was laid off, take that too.
I think the baby automatically qualifies for medicare.
Your doctor's office may be able to assist you in this matter.

how do i fight the urge for a cigarette?
OK, there are two questions here.
1. What happens in November when the new insurance related to your husband's job kicks in?
2. What should you do about health coverage until then?
Regarding #1, have your husband find out whether your final couple of months of pregnancy, the delivery, and subsequent care for you and the baby will be covered. The issue is that some group plans cover dependents from day 1 and others delay coverage. Also, be sure to get the insurance suggested below so that you are not without insurance for more than the magic 63 days. By being sure you have no time gap in coverage, you preserve your rights to have immedicate group coverage for pre-existing conditions (like pregnancy). You need to get the facts and decide what to do based on those facts.
Regarding #2, get yourself some good health coverage - it does not need to be expensive. I know the focus of your life is the pregnancy. That is how it should be. But, remember a lot of things can happen to you that are unrelated to your pregnancy - injuries and illnesses. You need to be covered for them and so does your husband.
Many people do not know about short-term health insurance. It is exactly what you need in your present circumstance. It is good coverage, lots cheaper than conventional coverage or COBRA and you can buy it for the exact number of days until the new group plan kicks in. It will not cover the pregnancy itself or any other pre-existing conditions but it will cover any new illnesses or injuries including any that might endanger your pregnancy. You can buy it on-line today and it will go into effect as early as tomorrow - or you can buy it now to go into effect when your present coverage is done in September. Best wishes.
