Is it socially acceptable for a woman to shave her head?

I am a woman who has always wanted to experience having my head shaved. However, I have always wondered if this is "normal" for a woman to have this experience. It is not unusual for men to choose to shave their heads but is is socially acceptable for women to choose a shaved head. Do other women ever experience this desire?

It is unusual but it is accepted.Most cancer patients shaves their heads too.

It's socially acceptable in North America. Although, some people might question your sexuality or think you are gay. If you are comfortable with yourself that shouldn't matter.

I think if you want to do it, you may get some funny looks but so does someone who pierces themselves or dyes there hair green...

you shouldnt care what other ppl think of you. if you want to shave your head than go for it! whether someone else accepts it or not, you're the one that has to live with it, and if you dont like it, its just hair it will grow out!

Yes, lots of women in my small town do this during the "locks for love" where they shave their head to give hair to cancer patients.

Have you seen "V for Vendeta" - Natalie Portman shaved her head for a part of the movie, & I haven't heard anyone say anything but complimentary about that. Socially acceptable - I don't think that applies, so many people are so judgemental today about anything and everything that I don't think that's what matters. Some people may look at you and think you're either gay or have cancer, but I think if you want to and if you are comfortable with it, you should! I think the results of 'acceptance' depend on your facial features and if it looks appropriate with the right features, but that shouldn't matter at all. IF you want to then go for it! Hair always grows back ....
Sometimes, even if people are judgemental, if you are comfortable and confident - don't care what anyone else thinks - then it really shows and your own feeling or presentation of your feeling about yourself rubs off on them. Good Luck -

Anyone who can help me with my hairloss?

I worked with a woman who shaved her head for Halloween one year, and she really regretted it. She said it was a stupid time to do it with winter coming on. And she had to wear a cap to bed because her head was cold.

Chemo patients lose their hair, and their heads get cold, too, and have to wear caps even in the daytime.

I don't know how old you are, but older people will think you are crazy to do it! Why do you need that kind of attention?
