why does the depo shot decrease your sex drive?

Question:

Answers:
Sex drive is your body's way of telling you your body is ready to conceive. Through hormones, birth control tricks your body into thinking it's already pregnant, therefore no need to try to conceive so, no ovulation and no sex drive. If you don't mind pills, try Ortho Trycyclin-Lo. It has lower hormone levels and ideally has less effect on your sex drive. My personal choice of birth control was to have my tubes tied after my 2 kids were born. With no interferring hormones, my sex drive is great! Unfortunately, that's not an option for everyone.

Other Answers:
The depo shot, like pretty much all forms of birth control, increase your estrogen and progesterone levels, and lower your testosterone levels. Yes, women produce testosterone. The testosterone is what causes your desire for sex. Thus lowering your sex drive.

I know there is a lot of controvery about the patch, but I have been on it since the January after it came out for that very reason. All other pills killed my sex drive, this doesn't. last month they switched me on to NOR-QD and my body reacted very poorly, and after 40 days on it (and only a week off it) I still have not not gotten my sex drive back. I have no idea, but I recently got off the depo shot and now I have an even higher sex drive than I did when I got on the shot. I would like to know the answer to this question as well lol.
