I'm not judging you, so please don't misunderstand, but you are taking narcotics for reasons not prescribed and you must know that it can lead to addiction and dependence. While your use has not gotten out of hand (yet), it has the potential to. Ask yourself honestly if you can live without the painkillers and what you would do if you couldn't gain access to them. Some prescription drug users do not intend to get hooked on the medicine, but when their prescription runs out they begin to obsess about how they are going to obtain more and more of the drug.
Vicodin addicts in particular find that they cannot function normally without the drug and that even though the "pain" is gone, Vicodin produces an effect in them that they feel they cannot live without. Studies have shown time and again that people suffering from Vicodin addiction ultimately start looking to outside sources for more prescriptions and are willing to go to great lengths to get more drugs.
Vicodin addiction is often seen a less serious condition than addiction to illicit street drugs or alcohol. This is because Vicodin is prescribed by a physician and also because Vicodin is not seen as causing the same negative problems as other drugs. This misconception often leads Vicodin addicts and their loved ones to believe that they do not need to seek treatment.
All mind altering substances affect the way that the brain functions, and in the case of Vicodin, the brain stops producing chemicals like endorphins. Because the brain has stopped producing these essential chemicals, the body feels that it is unable to function without the use of the drug. A person who suffers from Vicodin addiction has become dependent upon the drug and will go into withdrawal and cravings if he/she cannot acquire anymore.
Vicodin addiction affects the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of a person's life. In addition, Vicodin addiction can tear apart families, ruin relationships and leave lives in shambles. Many people who are addicted to Vicodin want to stop but find that they are unable to live without the drug. By understanding the devious nature of Vicodin addiction, helping yourself or someone you love is a much easier task.
Good luck to you.

I only took hydrocodine for pain after my tonsillectomy. I found that it made me gag (and almost throw up..it was nasty) and the taste was really icky.
If it gives you the energy to make it through the day then cool. Just be careful because it can affect your thoughts, feelings, sensations etc.
My sweety had the same bad habit with exactly, EXACTLY, the same excuses about the energy thing... man is like listening to her, but without the children part.
She started with $25.00 x month, and obviously it escalated because her system started to get used to it. Then, it got out of hand and her doctor gave her a count of 15 pills one month, Oh boy ! She wanted to go to a diff. doctor. I told her look you're acting crazy, it got way out of hand. She keep telling me that she wasn't hooked, and that she could drop it at any time, right.
Now, thank God, she's off of them. I talk to her doctor, and he switched her to a pill that didn't have the addictive part of "vicodin" and she got tired and stopped all together.
You're becoming a druggy, a drug dependant. Taking drugs not for the reason for which it was not intended, meaning abusing it.
It was a really nigtmare for me... I'm just glad that it's over.
Please quit before it gets out of control, because it WILL....
Vicodin does indeed give people energy, rarely do many people fall asleep on it. I really wouldn't worry too much about it becoming an addiction, there are truly worse drugs out there than hydrocodone. The only true worry I have for you is beware of the Tylenol that it contains, overdose of tyl in a given day can cause severe liver damage and even death. So if you must take it in moderation, space it out every 4-6 hours, not to exceed four doses a day. Narcotics get addictive for their euphoric buzz that many people get, relaxed state and then the Heavy sleep which you are not getting from vicodin. So your fine in my opinion.
It's not abusive, it's addictive. You have an addiction to painkillers. It's common. My question is, since it's a control medication, how do you get them? If you're not gettign prescriptions and filling it legally, you're illegally buying control medication and you could get into trouble.
You should try talking to someone, even an anonymous line, about this.
