Look for a exercise ball. I cant do situps either due to hip problems. The exercise ball is soft and you actually use your whole body to balance on it, laying back and raising up works your abs, all of them, it will help you alot. It worked for myself and my sis in law. She has back problems too. I also sit on my couch, grabbing the back of the couch behind my head and raise and lower my feet off the floor. Like mini crunches, I do these during commercials.lol. Makes them go faster and gives a great crunch too.
Yoga is amazing too. I have to change the positons on some due to not being able to lay on my back but the stretches really help your back and stomach.

Try this, it works. lay on your back with your arms out to the side and bring your knees up to your chest. Now, keeping your knees and feet togethjer, make a loop to the left and then swing to the right and make another loop. You are making a figure 8 in the air with your feet, while keeping them together and keeping your back flat against the floor. Holding the position to do this will tighten your stomach muscles. Do as many as you can every day.
