side effects of bupropion sr?

Question:

Answers:
Bupropion is generally more benign side effects-wise than other medications in its class. Many antidepressant drugs have high incidences of side effects (e.g. Effexor has been nicknamed "side-effexor"--I know--stupid pharmaceutical joke) and it is really no surprise due to their mechanisms of action.

One thing many patients are very concerned about is sexual dysfunction. There is generally less incidence of sexual side effects and impairment with bupropion as compared with other antidepressant drugs. Another benefit is less weight gain (or even slight weight loss) than other antidepressants (many cause weight gain).

Of note, it should not be used if you have a history of seizures or a history of bulimia or anorexia nervosa.

Other Answers:
There has been a long-standing concern that antidepressants may have a role in inducing worsening of depression and the emergence of suicidality in certain patients. Antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in short-term studies in children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders.
