HPV is stronly linked with cervial dysplasia, which untreated can lead to cervical cancer. It is so common, that my ob/gyn kept forgetting that I DID NOT have HPV with my recurrent cervical dysplasia. It's amazing that I had never heard about it before, as I try to stay informed. I ended up having a hysterectomy due the chances of the recurrent dysplasia turning into full blown cancer. I asked if I was done with paps now and the dr said I still needed annual exams. Just had my annual and she did a pap. I asked why and she said she had several cases of post-hysterectomy vaginal dysplasia. Just when I thought my worries where over! Thought I'd pass along the additional info. for anyone going through this. A hysterectomy doesn't take away the cancer risk - HPV caused or not!
