does a thyroid exam require a pelvic exam of preteen girls?

Question:
i was 10 and doctor performed a pelvic exam on me...no one else was in the room and i was not told it was going to happen...this was 37 years ago and yesterday was the first time i ever told anyone that this happened.

Answers:
First of all, the thyroid is in your neck. Secondly, NO doctor should ever do a pelvic exam without a nurse present. It's a little late, however, to do much of anything about it now. I'm surprised that your mother didn't come in to the exam room with you. Had she done that, this probably wouldn't have happened.

Other Answers:
I dont think so being the thyroid is in your neck?
a pelvic exam is normal for girls. If it was an internal exam probably not however the standards were different 30 years ago and was probably normal back then. I don't think that a thyroid exam requires a pelvic because my sis and dad have them quite frequently and have never mentioned this.
There is no correlation between your thyroid (located in your neck, behind your esophagus) and a pelvic exam. The thyroid is palpitated (felt, touched, or pushed) by the doctor ... its what they're doing when they feel your neck usually. The doctor usually orders blood tests as well to test for high levels of the hormone the thyroid produces. A pelvic exam at the age of 10 (today) would be considered unusual; however 30 years ago, that might have been the standard.
Thyroid is in your throat. A pelvic exam is not routine. Blood test to check your T4 level and ultrasound can be useful.
That is really really wrong. Your thyroid is by your neck not your pelvis.
