It only takes a few minutes. They take the speculum, which is a rounded tool, sort of like a giant tampon, and put surgilube on it. Then they insert it, crank it open (it may hurt just a little), look in, take a swab of the cervical tissue and you're done.

A pap smear is kind of like a pelvic exam. The doctor will have you lie on an exam table with your legs in stirrups. He/she will insert a tool that will cause the vagina to open. Some swabs will be taken and sent to the lab for evaluation.

If you are sexually active, it does not hurt. If you are a virgin, it's a little uncomfortable, but not painful. The whole procedure takes less than five minutes.

Well it does take some time they check eveything inside and it hurts well it might depend on the girl but i find it kind of painful
