Are my eyes acting odd? Look further.?

Question:
This is going to sound really weird but in my room I have a couple of those glow in the dark stars that you put on the ceiling. Well anyways
when they glow and I look at them it looks like they kind of aren't there, like the light is gone. If I try not to do it it's hard I just don't know if my eyes are acting weird, its because my vision is different, or something else. I don't know how to explain it really but I hope someone can give me an explanation please!

Answers:
The cones are used for picking up colors and are what we use to look directly at things. Rods are better at black and white and are used more in our side vision. This is why when you look directly at a star in the night sky it is not as easily seen as it is when viewed with your side vision. Looking directly at it is using your cones which aren't as good at viewing things in the dark. Thus, looking at it from the side uses your rods, helping you see better.
There is also something called the troxler effect. When you look directly at a small spot for a lenght of time it can actually seem to disappear. This is why you can't see the retinal vasculature that sits in front of your retina - except when you shine a light in your eye from different directions - it tricks your eye into thinking they are not sitting in the same spot. Our eyes make microsaccades (small movements from side to side) to keep things from disappearing that we are looking at.

It's probably because it's dark in your room and your eyes can't fully adjust to see them, Don't worry about it, it's just pupils aren't made to open up that wide and see that much in the dark.
It could be a problem with you the retina portion of your eye (the "rods" and "cones" that help determine color), or nerve problem. It's hard to tell without seeing them. Your doctor can give quick tests to see if anything is wrong.
I think its normal cuz i ahve teh exact same thing up there and i cnat see it too well.
Everyone's eyes are like that. It's like if you look at a very faint star and you cant see it, but when you look slightly away(or use averted vision) you can see it again. I forgot exactly what this is called, but it is normal.
