Why does crunches give you a flat stomach?

Question:
Yeah I know crunches and sit ups build your ab muscles. But people have been saying you need to get rid of the fat that's covering the ab muscles. True, but doesn't muscle burn fat? Or burn calories that well, burns fat? So if you have say your ab muscles become bigger, won't it just slowly take the fat away, and you really won't have to excercise that much?

Thats just what I thought. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Answers:
muscle and fat are different thing, fat is an layer that are outside the muscle. Muscle are only for movement, fat hold energy for u. "burning the fat' is because u feel burn, u use the energy that come from fat, so u lose them.the ab are underneat the fat so if u want to see the abs easier, better to get rid of fat. but dont go too skinny.

Other Answers:
its better to continue exercising then to quit after your abs just begin to form. if you quit doing crunches then your abs will eventually disappear again and all you'll have left is fat. but its better to give yourself a rest every once in a while so you don't tire yourself out and use up all of your energy.
