chronic UTI's??

Question:
Okay.I am 22. I have been having chronic UTIs for a while now. Yes I am sexually active, but I am very clean. I wash up after sex, pee before sex and after. I bathe or shower daily, and use a feminine wash in stead of soap down there. I only use bubble bath everyonce in a while. I drink ONLY water Monday-Friday, then on Saturday and Sunday I may enjoy a soda or two.

When I was 4, I had surgery to enlarge my urethra (or however you spell it), since then I only have to pee like 3 times a day. I try not to hold it, but I do not get the urge that often.

Has anyone ever suffered from the same thing?

Answers:
It sounds as though you are doing a number of great things to reduce your risk of UTIs. In particular, drinking water over soda is a great choice. How is your sugar consumption more generally? Do you eat a lot of processed foods or food with high fructose corn syrup? Do you eat five servings of fruits and veggies a day?

I wonder if the feminine wash is actually part of the problem. What if you left the area alone and *didn't* do quite so much to try and prevent UTIs? I know UTIs and yeast infections are not the same, but perhaps you could try the things that tend to prevent yeast infections, since they are related to general vaginal health. This would include drinking cranberry juice (the real thing, not the sugary juice cocktail), live-cultures yogurt, and/or taking acidophilus supplements.

Other Answers:
It sounds like you are doing everything right. Remember to wipe front to back after a bowel movement if you are not already doing it. Try to pee a little more oftent 4-6x a day, even if you don't feel a strong urge. Drink cranberry juice.
When you wash "down there" try not to scrub too vigorously. This can irritate the urethra, causing it to swell, and be susceptible to bacterial invasion. Don't use the feminine wash inside the labia minora; limit it to the outside of the vulva.
Despite all that you are doing, you may not be able to stop getting UTIs. Some women are just anatomically set up to have more problems.

be very careful that your femine wash is not the cause.
also try adding cranberry juice to your diet, it is very good on UTi.
I would also stress my concerns with a doctor. There may be something else going on that you dont know about
