I got my period a week and a half early?

Question: I started a different birth control pill about a month and a half ago. The past 2 days I've had brown discharge. Then today I got my actual period. Cramps and all! Is this from the new pill? My doc did tell me I could spot, but I don't remember her telling me I'd get the period almost 2 weeks early! Oh and I've been working out a lot lately.. could that cause it?
