Can ploycystic ovary syndrome be cured?

Question:

Answers:
In re: to the snide comment above - POS is a *perfectly* acceptable moniker for the disease. There are several ways in which to refer to the illness. I knew exactly what you meant. And secondly, no, it can't simply be cured by weight loss. People need to check their facts before coming here and insulting others. The second answer was much more on target and had some good info, but I also recommend reading through http://www.4woman.gov/faq/pcos.htm for details and info. It is possible to live well with PCOS and obtain effective treatments to help you feel better. Good luck.

Honey,

You don't even know the name of it. It's PCOS, and it can be cured with weight loss if you have it because you are obese, or overweight. Talk to your PCP about it.
No, PCOS cannot be cured. It is a syndrome, not a disease. It can, however be managed. You do need to see your health care professional. I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist. They are usually more up to date on the syndrome than other docs. But you can also see your primary physician or an OB/GYN. It all depends on how much they know about PCOS. I have had my share of stupid docs! Whatever they do, don't let them tell you that all you have to do is take the birth control pill. That is just a way to mask some of the symptoms. Having PCOS can put you at risk for developing many other health problems if you let it go without treatment. Heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. Most recent research has shown that insulin resistance is at the root of most PCOS. I gained control over my PCOS with weight management. I lost over 50lbs by eating a lowcarb diet, which is recommended for us PCOSers. I recommend something like the south beach diet. Concentrate on those healthy complex carbs! I stay away from white flour, sugar, potatoes, pasta and any starchy veggies.. like corn and peas. I stick to complex carbs, but still limit even those. Exercise is very important! Good luck to you! If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I would be more than happy to help if I can.
