What sort of consultant should you be referred to after a diagnosis of PCOS?

Question:
I've been referred to a gynecologist but not sure if an endocrinologist would be more appropriate.
PS I was diagnosed after a pelvic ultrasound

Answers:
I would imagine it depends what your main problem is. If you're trying to become pregnant but are unable because of the PCOS, then a gynaecologist would be an appropriate referral. If however, you're not concerned about the fertility aspect, but have problems with hirsuitism, acne, weight issues or glucose intolerance, an endocrinologist would be more appropriate.

I used to work in a hospital and think that it should be gynae. They tend to deal with all those kind of things

I have PCOS and my OB is treating me with a Rx called "Metformin". My doctor known as one of the best in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Do lots of research and go in with lots of questions. One thing that really suprised me is how high my testostrone level is. Be sure to ask about this.
I was diagnosed the same way. I've seen a couple of GYN's but none of them really helped me much. I would see an Endocrinologist. A major part of PCOS is horomones and they can help you better in figuring out where you're at with that. I would do some research so you have a better understanding of the syndrome and then try and find an Endo who specializes in it.

Good luck.
i too have it and my gynaecologist told me i wish loads of luck if you want to chat you can
