Is it possible after your 2nd ultrasound to have twins?

Question:
I had an ultrasound where you can see one sac. But underneath the sac I see fainlty a similar type of spot on the photo. My doctor said it is too early to see if it is twins but my gut tells me it is. This is my first pregnancy so if this sounds vaguely familiar please let me know.

Answers:
It can happen

It would be helpful to know how far along your pregnancy is. Go to the website provided below and browse the ultrasound images of twins (they are listed by week 4 - 26). You can see if you find any similarities to your images. Also, was your ultrasound done by a sonographer and read by a radiologist, rather than by a OB/GYN? You will get the better quality exam from an imaging facility, because ultrasound is their specialty.

I also wondering if you might have confused a twin pregnancy with a subchorionic hematoma. You can see images of this at these sites:

Absolutiely possible. I know a girl that had a scan early on and was told it was a nice normal pregnancy then later on it was discovered she was carrying twins so doctors are not infallable!
