What is Tubal Ligation?
Tubal ligation, commonly knows as “getting your tubes tied,” is a surgical sterilization technique for women. This procedure closes the fallopian tubes, and stops the egg from traveling to the uterus from the ovary. It also prevents sperm from reaching the fallopian tube to fertilize an egg. In a tubal ligation, fallopian tubes are cut, burned, or blocked with rings, bands or clips. The surgery is effective immediately. Tubal ligations are 99.5% effective as birth control. They do not protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

not likely. i had mine done 8 yrs ago and its pretty normal to have the fear in the back of your head.even as recently as a year ago i was still buying preg. tests because i feel 'flutters' in my belly, kinda like when your preg and the baby is starting to move around,but its very very unlikely that you will get preg. trust me hun, its normal to feel like it isnt gonna work or that you are gonna get preg. like i said i still have some fears about it now even after 8 yrs.
There is a small chance that you could get pregnant. It all depends on what they did when they tied your tubes. Did they cut, burn and tie or just cut and tie? If they cut, burnt and tied them, then it is highly unlikely that you will be able to get pregnant without a reversal surgery. If they just cut and tied them, there is a possibility that your tubes could become untied and grow back together. Unless this happens, you will be unable to get pregnant, one again, without the reversal surgery.
Tubals are considered to be a permanent procedure to prevent pregnancy. There are reversal procedures that can be performed if you wish to become pregnant. The tubes have to be repaired in this type of operation.
In a tubal the tubes are either cut,burned or tied. Depending on which procedure you had depends on how easy a reversal will be.
Depends on you age. Women are at their peak reproductive period from age 24-28. This is also the period of time with the greatest amount tied tubes heal themselves. The body just has to get pregnant. More children are born outside wedlock to that age group than any other, including teenagers. This happened with my daughter, as well as her mother.
It depends on if you want to or not. There are other options...if you want to (i.e. In-vitro fertilization or tubal ligation reversal). If you don't want to, there is a risk of ectopic pregnancy though it's not likely. This is where the pregnancy takes place in the tubes, I believe. You should consult with a doctor as to what the symptoms are because there is some risk to your health.
If reversal is something you are considering, several factors will determine if this is a possibility. Your age and the way the procedure was initially done are what I believe to be the two most important factors.

You can talk to your doc about getting a reversal of the ligation; they have been performing reversals for over 50 years. Overall, success rates for tubal ligation reversal can vary from 20%-70%, depending on the woman's unique situation.
There is also a possibility of a pregnancy in spite of the ligation, but that is not recommended...the failure rate for tubal ligation is 1 case in every 300-500 women; rates of failure are higher in younger women. More importantly, the rate of ectopic pregnancy risk is also drastically increased in women who have undergone tubal ligation - about 7 ectopic pregnancies per 1,000 procedures [which may not seem like a lot unless you are the one w/the ectopic].

That procedure is 99.9% effective. There's still that .001% threshold for it to happen. For the most part, you don't have to worry about it.
Increased risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. Chances of pregnancy after tubal ligation are about 2.5 in 1,000 women after four years post-surgery. Out of these, approximately one half will result in ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, pregnancies occurring after tubal ligation must be carefully evaluated to determine if they are intrauterine or ectopic pregnancies.
I was told by my doctor (OB/GYN) that I had about a 1% chance of getting pregnant after having my tubes tied, cut, and burned.
If you wanted more kids, you shouldnt have had the procedure done and if you didnt want more kids, then most likely you are good to go.
