just had a baby and I bled for 3 weeks now there is a discharge that has an odor is this normal girls?

Question:
I know you'd say ask your doc but my next appointment is in 2 weeks and if it is normal what can you do to help, just wait it out? they say not to douche and I am a very clean person this is embarrassing

Answers:
This is very normal. After I had my daughter, I had the same problem. I'm surprised they didn't tell you at the hospital. Now, if your discharge should go from brownish or very pale to bright red I would contact your doctor immediately. I would suggest using a panty-liner that is slightly scented. Although this may cause some irritation (if you're sensitive to things like that). I would not suggest douching. That just pushes everything up into your uterus and could cause a very bad infection. Below is a link that tells you what to expect as far as the bleeding is concerned and also what 'shade' it should be.
you probably have an infection
