Rowing, pull ups, push ups, lateral raises, and lat pull downs will create the perfect upper back for you. Vary weight and repetitions to achieve the desired results. More weight and less repetitions to build thicker musculature and less weight and more repetitions to tone and tighten. AN excellent book is Bill Pearl's keys to the inner universe. It explains virtually every exercise with free weights and machines, diet, rest and how to exercise in a way to achieve any result. Good luck and if I had to do only one exercise it would be push ups.
