Why does my urine smell awful?

Question: Over the last 3 days, I've noticed that my urine smells really awful. I do not have pain when urinating and I don't feel the need to urinate frequently either so I've ruled out a urinary tract infection. I drink loads of water daily. I had sexual intercourse last week with my boyfriend and it seems to have started soon after this. We didn't do anything different so I don't think it's got anything to do with this either. Anybody have any ideas?

Just because your urine smells funny does not necessarily mean there is something wrong. Many foods such as onions, or asparagus,can alter the odor of urine. I would still visit your Doctor and explain what happened and when, the fact that it happened soon after intercourse does seem suspicious. But I work in a Hospital laboratory and to be honest I have never noticed a woman with a STD complaining of urine odor...vaginal odor maybe but not urine. You also should explain what the smell is like, is it sweet, mousy, etc.Do you have Diabetes? That can cause a sweet smell to your urine. Your doctor will probably have you collect a clean catch urine sample and maybe take some blood and send it to the lab for testing.
