help please?

i'm 13 year old and i have a hero and she's 19. She's really like a sister to me but i'm afarid to tel her that part, but she knows she's my hero. But any who, I have already started my period. But i want to ask her how old she was when she did. I dont wanna sound weird, and it's really hard for me to talk about things like this. But i want to break the wall down about this kind of stuff with her, and be able to talk to her about it. If you know what i mean, because i cant talk to my mom about it. But i was wondering if anyone knew anyways to ask, because i'm pretty nervous. Any experiences?

Do you ever watch TV together or look at magazine ads together? What you could do is when commercials come on advertizing feminine hygiene products, take that time to ask her, "Would you mind if I asked you how old you were when you got your first period?"

She's had a lot more experience with this kind of "stuff" and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to help you, whatever you are curious about. You might find that your Mom would talk to you, too, although my own mother was extremely embarrassed discussing anything about the birds and the bees, so I remember those days all TOO well. ugh! As hard as it sounds, there are times you may have to take a big breath, gulp, and just ask your mother. My mother controlled the purse-strings when it came to buying supplies and things.

In the meantime, talk to your friend about being embarrassed and how you're having trouble talking to your mom. She'll let you know you're not at all alone at your age feeling this way.

If it would make it easier for you, write her a letter. If you know that she cares for you like a little sister, then chances are she will be glad you came to her. I would be.
