Girls. What do you talk about with doctor?

Question:
Girls.when you're getting the dreaded "pap-smear" exam, what on earth can you talk about with your doctor? Especially if he's a male?

Answers:
I've had a male GYN/OB since I was 17 ( 26)

Two male doctors delivered my 2 boys. The way I see it is this doctor is responsible for telling me what is going on with my "prized possesion". I better be comfortable with him enough to tell him everything.

Plus if anything that I told him ever got out : SUE, SUE, SUE. lol

Really though, trust your doctor. They didn't go into that profession to be perverts and they know what they are doing. My doctor actually WARMS the speculum under warm water before inserting it!

Simply, while your getting the pap if he doesn't say anything ( which most doctors do talk to ease the patient) ask does everything look okay. That will get him to talk.

Just make sure that he eases any doubts that you have. Comfortability will come soon.

I prefer male Gyn's because I feel like a woman is judging me where men know that they are dogs.

Other Answers:
I have a male doctor. And since I will be a female doctor in a few months, I find that it is just like talking to any other doctor. They have to keep it private, and it really doesn't matter if our patients are male or female. We see you guys as problems, or concerns, not as male or female. We don't see you guys as you see your friends, we see you as puzzles that either need to be solved as you are having problems, or people seeking our advice for educational purposes. You can talk about anything you want while getting your pap-smear. And even female doctors who give pap-smears dread them. It isn't comfortable. I suggest finding a doc you are comfortable with talking to about anything, as that will be your best confident for anything that may come your way in life. If you aren't comfortable with your doctor, who really won't judge you, then you are doing a disservice to yourself and puts your health at risk.

it should not matter the sex of your doctor regarding what you will discuss with them.

if you are uncomfortable having a male gyn, you are certainly able to change doctors. you should feel comfortable when in the doctors office so you can ask questions I've had both male and female doctors perform gynecological exams, and I just joke with them. It eases the tension significantly and isn't as meaningless (and as boring) as small talk, and you can joke about just about anything, including the exam itsself. I remember once I had to have a pap and I had a bladder infection at the same time (so it smelled sort of odd) and I was like "I'm so sorry, this is really embarrassing" and the doc said "Hey, this isn't any more pleasant for me than it is for you." and it was a funny moment. Just little things like that make it a lot more tolerable.
