Answers:
Yes you can. Go to the doctor and tell him you cannot work any longer and get a certificate. Make sure all your symptoms are recorded, as you have described them. If you get sick pay at work, give them the certificate. Then ring the benefit helpline number and ask for an incapacity benefit application form, which you will need when your sick pay ends from work, or now if you don't get any. Also ask for a disability living allowance form. You are entitled to this for not being able to cook a meal, for not being able to get to sleep or be comfortable at night. Give as much detail as you can though. You may also be entitled to income support depending on your circumstances. If you pay rent, tell them you require a housing benefit and council tax form. Disability Living allowance would be at the lower rate which is £16.50 a week, but it is not counted as income when they work out your other benefits. It is a lengthy process to go through sometimes, but once you are accepted into the system it should be ok. Also, once you have been on incapacity benefit for 26 weeks, you are allowed to get a job paying 81 pounds a week and still keep your sick money, but this only really works to your advantage if your'e not getting housing benefit, as these get reduced to some extent. Plus you must advise them. The free benefit helpline number is 0800 88 22 00 and they are helpful and will explain in more detail. I do wish you well, and hope some of this helps you. I will be thinking of you, with regards and good wishes.
yes but make sure you take a sick note or letter from your doctor
