When i'm on my period, is it okay to have a few extra calories?

Question:
i'm on a diet, sticking to between 1400 and 1700 calories daily. but i am having the first period i've had in 6 months and i feel really weak. is it okay to add a few extra calories? obviously in a healthy form... maybe a bowl of cereal, some yogurt, whole wheat toast, veggies, fruit? etc?

Answers:
Dieting offers challenges to this question. You sound very reasonable in your choices and having a few extra calories probably will not be an issue. What can be challenging is the mental rationalization that can occur. So, that anytime you feel tired or weak you add more food. This could become a habit and reduce your weight loss. I would suggest that you increase foods high in iron and protein. During our period, we have a lower iron level and be slightly anemic. This can lead to feeling weak and tired. Also, choose to include some extreme self care during your period. Go to bed early, take a nap during the weekends, drink more water and listen to other things that your body is craving. Anything to allow your body to replenish.

i say eat more when you have your period
Yes. Scientific studies have proven that women on their period actually burn 1/3 more calories than they normally do. Therefore, eating a little more is okay, as long as you don't overdo it. If your body is hungry, FEED IT!
I agree to make up for all the iron you lose during that time....
ya it's ok, especially if its healthy food like u said....

sounds like you're eating just right..yes it's ok to eat extra during this time
Sure. But you want to take magnesium amino acid chelate 400 mg per day. It will reduce any discomfort. For weakness, take Vitamin C 1000 mg 3 times per day. Both are relatively inexpensive. the C you can get at a pharmacy. The magnesium get at a local health store or vitaminshoppe.com.
You can have a normal diet, no need for extra calories during the periods.
o yeah!!!! when ur body is all over the place and ur seriously feeling down then a lil munch is justr perfect!!! just dnt over do it coz ul regret it after all ur hard work but relax ur diet and ur body will thank u!!! i always find that ice-cream works wonders!!!! hehe
I see no contraindication for this. Obviously if your feeling weak, you might not be having enough calories. Why haven't you had a period in six months? Are you having some hormonal imbalance?
yes a few more healthy calories are fine.
yes, for your health sake you should consume a few more calories to keep your blood count up.
