girl help!!!!?

i'm 13 year old and i have a hero and she's 19. She's really like a sister to me but i'm afarid to tell her that part, but she knows she's my hero. But any who, I have already started my period (when i was 11). But i want to ask her how old she was when she did. I dont wanna sound weird, and it's really hard for me to talk about things like this. But i want to break the wall down about this kind of stuff with her, and be able to talk to her about it. If you know what i mean, because i cant talk to my mom about it. But i was wondering if anyone knew anyways to ask, because i'm pretty nervous. Any experiences?
