Serious answers only! How should it smell? Women/Moms/Grow. Men?

Question:
Okay serious answers please! How do you explain to a young girl how their vagina should smell? I had a girl ask me and it was hard for me to answer. She said how do I know if mine smells good or not, or how it should smell, when I don't know how they are suppose to smell. she is worried what guys will think of her when she starts having sex. I have explained the whole your too young thing etc. I am sure she is just paranoid, but it makes me concerned she may have a bacterial infection that is causing a foul order or something since she questions it. How do I explain what it can and should smell like? Now I am only talking smell, I know how to word the whole discharge thing.

Answers:
Does the home have a nurse on hand? You could have suggest she ask the nurse or you could ask the nurse for her. I gues if it were me, I'd tell her (regarding how a healthy and clean person's vagina should smell) that there are parts of our bodies that have a normal strong smell when our hormones start to get active, places like under our arms or in our genitals, but that it should smell mostly like a strong smelling part of our own body. Just like underarms have certain types of smells that go with them, vaginas do too ("sort of a pungent, vinegar-ish smell" [1]), but just like underarms, someone's vagina shouldn't smell really strong or bad if she washes herself well with a gentle soap and water. If it smells really strong, like fish or has a garbage like smell to it soon after washing, then that can be a sign that she should see a doctor to make sure she is healthy.

I guess it would be important to know if there is a change, as that is what most women take to be a warning sign that something is up. If she suddenly became aware of a smell that wasn't there previously, it might be a good idea for her to have medical attention.

Also, please consider giving her the "those are your private parts and no one is supposed to touch you there" and "it is inappropriate for an adult to ask you to keep a secret" talk. Her inquisitive nature about this issue seems like it could be a red flag that she has had some kind of sexual contact or near sexual contact [2]. I'm really not an alarmist, but it is a possiblity that might be irresponsible to overlook.

I t hink this is a dumb question, sorry but i never sniffed myself

It should never ever smell like fish. Any other smells can be taken care of with a good bath/shower and/or shaving. Take her to a doctor for a check-up. Have her ask the doctor.

Coming from a man, It should smell like you!!
Dont sweat the small stuff, live life, enjoy.

every woman's vagina has a different smell. Sorry, I really don't know how to describe it. But it's different for everyone. It should smell like the rest of her body. If she has any odor in the perineal area, tell her to take more frequent showers, ie. morning and night. Some people have no odors while others have a distinct odor "thier own personal odor". If there is a 'fishy' smell or even a stale urine odor she may have an infection. Infections are easily taken care of with medication, douche, or creams. If the smell persists after consulting your doctor, try the massengill line of products for femenine odor problems. Please first ask her to see her doctor first if this is a real bad odor.
