I'm considering breast augmentation. Is there anything specific I should know?

Question:
How long can I expect to be out of work?

Answers:
You should only be out of work for a few days, although you may have some difficulty with lifting or stretching your arms over your head for a few weeks.

There are lots of different ways to get the implants in. The surgeon I work with uses a balloon dilator to expand the pocket, and this allow him to make in incision that is about half an inch long. The implants are rolled up to squeeze through the hole, then unrolled and filled with saline. The scar ends up being in the fold under the breast so you never see it. He can do both implants in about 35 mins.

If you have an incision near the areola, you risk losing sensation to the nipple. Going through the belly button means tunneling under the skin all the way up, which I imagine would be the most painful part. Some surgeons go from the armpit in, but I think the scar is more visible there than anywhere else.

Implants can be placed under the chest muscle or just under the gland. I think sub-muscular looks more natural.

Some of the postoperative pain is related to muscle spasm. You should get both pain medicine and something to relax the muscles after surgery.

Contrary to what you might get told, implants do not freeze, boil in the sun or in a tanning bed, cause you to float in a pool, expand in an airplane, or anything else crazy. They can rupture, but it's rare, because they are built to be tough. (An auto accident that breaks your ribs might break an implant)

Hope that helps.

SIDE EFFECTS WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

It depends on what type of breast augmentation you are getting. There is one where water leaks out of your belly button for a week or two. Also, for a few days after getting it done, it will hurt like hell, but its worth it if you really want to increase it,

Just really do your research. There are many, many possible complications both initially and in the long run. It can be harder to find lumps and find cancer in the early stages. Mammograms are more of a problem as the squeezing you normally do can pop the implant. Some bodies will reject the foreign object. Also surgery itself is obviously a risk. Also you can lose some of the sensitivity to stimulation so you might have a bigger set, but in terms of your pleasure you lose out. I recently had a breast reduction and was back to work in three days. My cousin had breast implants and was back in about a week. So you won't be out of commission for too long. We're both thrilled with our results and I'm sure you will be too! The surgery and recovery are fairly easy. Good luck!
