What's wrong? This is something new. Why is this happening? Is this normal? Ladies, please help!!!?

Question:
I am 25 years old and I've been getting my period since I was 9. For the last couple of months, at the end of my period comes out very dark, sometimes it looks black!!! Yea Gross. I asked my GYN why this was happening and he said it's normal for someone my age to experience this, but none of my friends are having this 'problem'...well not yet is it is normal. Any of you ladies have the same experience? Like haveing your period isn't nasty enough. Now I have some black stuff coming out like I'm rotten or something!!! Please let me know if you have the same experience and what do you think it is.

Answers:
It's totally normal. That's what it all looks like before your uterus pumps fresh blood in there to loosen it and get it all out. That's why you have your period: to get rid of that old black blood and make a new lining out of fresh blood...which then turns black and gets rinsed out and replaced...and so on.

I've noticed if I'm dehydrated or dieting too much, it gets blacker, probably because my body isn't using as much fresh blood to flush it out...just my theory ;-)

completely normal just darker blood i get it sometimes and im younger then you
can't believe the gyn did not tell you that it is just old blood that is being shed. Nothing serious. you are fine. Now, will I get paid what the gyn doc makes?
Why didn't your gyn go into it any further? It's just blood. I get it at the begining of my cycle and at the very end (like you). It's completely normal.
Sounds like the questions has been answered... just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone. I might suggest you change doc's -- it's so important to have a health care provider who will inform you of what is going on with your body. When you are stressed or filled with anxiety that can make you feel worse! If you are having a thicker, darker blood, that can be totally normal. Just inform your doctor if you have a dramatic change in your cycle. SHE should know of any changes :)
As others have said, yes, quite normal. Also, having your period may seem like a pain sometimes, but never think of it as a curse. It's a blessing. Too often what is considered 'womanly' is looked down upon by men, but we don't need to feel that way.

Also, get a Woman gyn. Would you take your car to an attorney to get a tune up? :)
