no. this is an old wives tale..just like swimming when we had our period. Our grandmother's and great-grandmothers did not understand the body's functions completely. Hince the "old wives tales" i can not think of one reason why your mom would say such a thing, but, yes, like everyone has said so far, I have to agree. There is no reason why you shouldn't wash your hair when you're on your period. Like one of the people answered, there really isn't anything you can not do while you're on your period.
