I have heard that new mothers have a chemical/hormone that helps them deal with fractured sleep, is this true?

My 2 month old had RSV at the same time my 3 yr. old was diagnosed with asthma. The baby had to be in a mist tent and get nebulizer treatments every 4 hrs. The 3 yr old had to get the nebulizer every 4 hrs also. I had to mix the med. and they didn't take the same dose, and they weren't on the same schedule. I did this day and night for days with no alarm clock and never missed a dose.
I believe this is true !!!
