what happens on the first gyno visit? what kinds of tests are done?

Question:

Answers:
You will probably sit down with either the doctor or nurse and answer a lot of questions - that's after filling out forms related to your health history and insurance.
They may or may not do some basic blood work - blood count.
Then they'll do the actual pelvic exam and take the swab of the cells in the cervix. As for "does it hurt" -- you may feel a pinching sensation at the time, but that's about all.
Please, make sure they sit down and answer your questions about the procedure BEFORE the procedure. If they can't take the time for your concerns, you may want to consider another healthcare provider.

wow!

Usually a PAP smear to check for cervical cancer cells, breast exam, and a visual exam of your woman "goods" just to make sure things are the way they are supposed to be. Then of course, the birth control talk, and what to expect later in life, and they will show you how to exam your breast at home. Hope you get a female doctor. Pap is done, doc takes a look inside and fills around.

I agree with Kalgihe. Hint - take a couple of tylenol before you go. The exam can be painful, especially the first few times.

Well, it's definitely going to be uncomfortable. None of us like it, but it's necessary. You'll probably just get a pap smear. What happens is the doctor will put what looks like a giant set of tongs in your vagina to kind of hold it open, then he'll take a swab and get a sample for testing. He might poke around a bit and push on your stomach, you'll feel some pressure but there shouldn't be any pain. What I always do is just start thinking about something else fun LOL.it's usually over quick anyway. Oh yeah, and the breast exam too. Good luck!

Be ready to go WAY out of your comfort zone, that is for SURE! Hope it's a female doc. You will have a breast exam, and be taught how to do a self exam. You will have a pap smear, which can be somewhat painful the first few times. You may have some blood work done, and of course LOTS of questions. Have FUN!
