Light exercise like walking.
Heating pad or hot water bottle.
Have a cup of hot tea.
Deep breathing & exhale slowly, pushing air out between almost closed lips.
Trace your fingertips or nails in two circles over your abdomen down the center and up around the sides into the center and back down the center.
This is called effleurage a rhythmic stroking; "effleurage of the abdomen is used in the Lamaze method of childbirth"
Many of the technic of natural childbirth are also good for cramps. If it becomes a big problem please see you doctor.
These methods are worth learning because they work for pain management in many other situations.
Also scalp massage can distract you from the cramps. If you or someone else just barelly touches your scalp with fingertips or nails and makes tiny circles and moves to the next spot. During this time you concentrate on the sensation on your scalp.

A like to use a heating pad when my cramps are really bad.
There is also nothing like a hot cup of camomille tea, curled up on the coach with a good book and my kitties. I personally find kitties and a good book to be very therapeutic. I take Mag Phos (a magnesium phosphate supplement) that I get at the health food store. It is a homeopathic remedy. I used to have horrible cramps and now I don't even have to take tylenol. The brand name is Hyland's.

Also, lately I've been using sport creams type remedies, they some what numb the area so you don't feel the pain (most don't smell to great). I usually put some on take two pills and go to sleep, by the time I wake up I don't feel the pain. But since you don't want pills, just keep applying the cream.
