How can you tell if there is an egg in the follicle or a cyst?

Question: We're are trying to do Invitro fertilization and my doctor says that i have 3 follicular cysts when he did the ultrasound, when he was trying to extract the eggs to fertilize, nothing but clear fluid came out signifying that there were no eggs, just 3 cysts, wouldnt ultrasound see those? please help me :)

Nope. All the ultrasound can show is the existence of a fluid filled follicle. Remember even though the egg is the largest single cell in a female's body it is still microscopic
