I have extremely bad cramps... any suggestions on how to cope?

Question:
I'm 24, not sexually active (for over 2 years) and have no set schedule of my period (happens every 3-5 weeks). I have knock-me-out cramps the first day, and now it is even going into the second day, and my period lasts about 4 days of fairly light flow (after the first 2). I can't even go to work, and i've been to the hostpital before. I know i should see a doctor, but I hate my gyno and have been lazy about finding a new one. I would rather not have some doc pump me full of meds. I'm very physically active... i work out at least 2 hours a day.

Answers:
If you are not already on birth control, you might reconsider finding a new gyno. The patch changed my life. My period made me stay in bed with cramps for about 4 days, with very heavy flow. Very painful, & irregular. Then I got serious about finding help, so my gyno had me try pills, which didn't work, but then put me on the patch, which is wonderful. Not to say there are no side effects, but I can handle them comparitavley speaking.

Here are things I did to make my monthly tortures less tortuous:

1. Drink ginger tea to relieve the pain.

2. Walk to get rid of bloating.

3. Increase your water intake.

4. Use a heating pad wherever it hurts.

5. Soak in a hot bath.

6. Do yoga.....the deep breathing increases oxygen to your tissues and your brain, which helps mentally, and the stretching helped physically.

7. Instead of Tylenol, try Advil........it is a blood thinner, which will help with clots, and an anti-inflammatory as well as a pain reliever.

And lastly, I ate Lots of DARK chocolate. It releases happy endorphines and makes you feel better, and believe it or not, dark choc. has antibodies and flavanoids that increase your immune system.

Hang in there!
I usually get one of those so I fill an old bottle with hot water and place it on the lower abdomen area and my lower back

Paracetamol helps too! It'll go away in less than 2 hrs
when i had them, drinking something hot, like hot tea or coffee would easy the cramps along with a heating pad. when they got real bad, i'd make myself a hot toddy and lie down for a while.
