I went to the doctor today......?

Question: She told me that my thyroid level was very low.....What does this mean? Does this mean that my thyroid is underactive or overactive.....hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidsm ???? I just don't understand. She said she felt a nodule on one side of my throat. I have to have a thyroid ultrasound. What does all this mean????

It is a very confusing thing! I just went through that last year myself. I am sorry to say I still don't totally understand what the doctor is trying to say. First I am told that my thyroid is low, then was told it is called hyperthyroidism. Makes no sense to me either. I do know that when you have a lump on anything it needs to be checked out to see if it is going to need to be removed or just treated with meds. I hope you find your answers and I hope they are all good.

Usually people with a low thyroid level are over weight. Medication will help you sustain a normal activity level..not to worry I don't think it is a serious as it sounds.
