does swimming help you grow taller?

Question:
im 13 and im wondering if swimming would help me grow taller? or at least lose some weight?

Answers:
Nothing will help you grow taller except a good healthy diet. You are genetically inclined to be a certain height dependent on the DNA you received from your parents. Although poor nutrition can stunt your growth. Sorry, there is no secret to getting taller.

Swimming is great aerobic exercise and will definitely help you lose weight. It is easy on your joints, you don't get overheated as the water helps cool you off plus it is fun :)

Good luck!

Other Answers:
no. drink milk and eat well. but it is good excercise, it will slim u down

Swimming will tone you down, but no it won't make you taller, I'm proof. You are only 13. You are WAY too young to be worrying about that! Lots of excersize will help you lose weight. Avoiding all junk food will help you lose weight. The excess weight is keeping you from growing taller. Eating protein promotes growth, but only in conjunction with lots of excersize.

yes

swimming may not slim you but tan your skin.

Regarding your height, its going to be largely determined by your genes - probably 95% and maybe 5% by your diet.

Some medical treatments involving daily shots are gaining in popularity. Do a web search on "synthetic growth hormones" for more information. You are just the right age for them, but results seem to be mixed, daily shots are a pain, and I'm sure the treatment is costly. Here is one article on the subject.

Swimming - and any form of exercise - may help you lose weight, but your diet will have 10 times the impact of exercise. Forget all the diet books - they all have conflicting recommendations. If you stick to these basics you'll drop pounds fast:

1. Eliminate ALL junk food, soda, sweet/sugar juices, and fast food (esp. fries) from your diet.
2. Reduce carbohydrates (pasta, bread, patatoes, milk, anything w/sugar)
3. Feast on fresh fruits, vegetables and water every day.
4. Have as much meat, fish (not fried), cheese, and eggs as you like.
5. Don't eat after 8pm at night.

Try that for 2 weeks and I can almost guarantee you'll lose 10lbs. You won't be hungry, but you may not feel satisfied either. If you can stick it out, however, your body will eventually get used to a heathly diet and cravings for sugar, fast food, and carbohydrate snacks (chips, candy, etc) will gradually go away.
