How many people eat when emotional stress is high?

Question:
What is a good way to curve this? When I have had a very stressful day with my kids I start eating. It's not so out of control that I down a bag of chips or eat a box of cookies. I eat like a bunch of little snacks, like candy bars, fruit, or the worst is corn nuts. Anyone else go through this and have found a better way of resisting the temptation to eat when feeling overwhelmed?

Answers:
I just realized recently that I am a "stress eater". I have gained so much weight since my last baby and nothing I did would help. I'd lose a little but then find myself gaining it right back and more. It's good that you realize it before it gets out of control and you gain a lot of weight before knowing it. I've lost 25 lbs now and recognize when the stress level is high that I need to grab an apple or an orange instead of chips or cookies. It was hard at first, but always keep healthy food choices handy....because you know that stress could pop up at any time. Also, take some time out for yourself...go for a walk, read a few chapters in a good book, put some headphones on for a while and just relax. Take time to breathe and always take time for yourself....don't let food pacify or comfort you. Good luck.
i personally think the best way to curb the temtation to eat is to take your stress and frustration out in the gym. not only is it a great way to get your endorphins working (which make you happy!) but you also lose all the weight you may have gained from snacking.
good luck!
