How many times will a dr perform a LEEP before changing methods?

Question:
i had a LEEP a year ago because i had high grade HPV. Since then, my last 2 pap's came back abnormal High grade again. my dr wants to do another LEEP. I am not extremely comfortable doing this again, so i want to know if it's common to have more than one.

Answers:
My best friend had two of these procedures done due to the same condition as you. She also had the freezing thing done after the second LEEP. She was worried about the same thing. Her doc said it was OK to have the second one done. Plus, you need to get control of it if it is still in the high grade stages. You don't want invasive cancer. Your cervix will heal. ALSO, you should talk to your doctor about going in for routine pap smears every 6 months until you have a normal pap smear report again. Then, once it gets back to normal, you MUST go at least once a year. The thing about this HPV is that they are finding that over time the virus goes "dormant". Though you will always carry it. 4 years now, after the two LEEPs and the freezing, my friend's pap smears have been nothing more than just "abnormal". She continues to goes every 6 months. Her doctor says that it will take time...maybe years before her paps are normal again. If you are sexually active and plan on having multiple partners, you must protect yourself as there are different strains of this virus that are linked to cervical cancer. You don't want to contract another strain and have that contribute to your battle.
