has anyone had a bone scan?

Question:
im having a bone scan thursday what do they do and does it hurt?

Answers:
Bone scans do not hurt. Although, you will feel a little pinch when they give the injection. You will receive the injection and three hours later they will give you the scan. It is important that you drink plenty of fluids during the three hour span. When you are ready for your scan you will lay perfectly still on your back while a screen (something like a tv screen) is a few inches above your body and moves slowly down your whole body scanning the bones. It is completely painless. The only thing that might bother you is when the scanner is right above your face for a few minutes (if your claustrophobic) but remember it is only a few minutes. The injection is a dye that will light up if an abnormality is found. The bone scan will last anywhere from 45 mins. to an hour. Don't wear any jewelry or metal as they would have you take it off. Preferably, I would wear comfortable clothes like a jogging suit than you most likely wouldn't even have to put on a hospital gown. I have had quite a few bone scans and they do not hurt. Good luck to you and I wish you well.

it does not hurt! u just have to lie still for a while.that's the hardest part of the scan. they did a total body scan on me, so i had to lie still on my stomach then my back. i had to have an injection to show the bones in the scan, but no problem. it doesn't make u sick or anything like that.

Its really cool. When I did it there was an LCD screen infront of you and you sould see your bones! The shot hurts, but not to bad. Dont worry! They use radioactive dye. They inject it into IV then they allow it to go into bone. Picture a chalk outline of a person with little black dots in it. It will show will the bone is the thickest. It shouldnt hurt at all and normally takes about 30 min. They use cat scan.
