It could be a whole number of things, including nothing. Cardiac pain (i.e. caused by heart disease) is usually crushing or tightening pain in the center of the chest, with or without radiation to the left arm and/or neck and jaw. Its usually precipitated by activity and gets better with rest. It's not common for women your age, but can occur if you have a history of heart disease in the family (starting at a young age) and/or if you are very unhealthy/obese, or if you have a heart defect of some kind (uncommon). Women can have atypical presentation of heart disease.
Are you hyperventilating when this happens. Panic attacks/anxiety attacks can mask the signs and symptoms of cardiac disease, but the pain is typically more sharp and to the left, like you're describing.
If it hurts to touch this area when the pain is there, it could be muscular pain.
Pneumonia can also present with chest pain, and the pain can be aggrevated by breathing. There is usually other symptoms as well though, like malaise, cough with or without sputum/slime and a fever. This will also last more then 10 minutes.
Last but not least, it could be nothing.
If you're worried and it happens again, then get yourself admitted as emergency care and have it checked out.
Good Luck!

It might be a symptom of illness. You need to consult your doctor.
I've got that before too - it was never frequent enough for me to go see a doctor about it though. I guess I just chalked it up to growing pains (although I'm 24yrs). If you're finding these pains to happen often, you should go see a doctor, just even to get looked at. It may cost money - but if you ignore it, it might just get worse and then cost you more money in the end. Since you're describing left shoulder pain, it makes me think of your spleen. An enlarged spleen can cause left shoulder pain. We see an enlarged spleen from leukemias. You haven't had any trauma to your left side? i.e. car accident, someone hit you, etc.? Either way, it is most likely referred pain from around your left hemidiaphragm. You're too young to make think of a cardiac source. If it keeps getting worse, please see your physician.
This sounds unbelieveable but it is probably gas. I had those pains and i take tums for it. Gas in your body that is hard to release goes in all sorts of places such as your shoulders, ribs, and anywhere near the chest. Do see a doctor if youre able to ease your mind. Plus by your name it sounds like you smoke and that is very likely gas pains cause i smoke too and so the story goes.. (pent up air), take care and try the tums, ok? I hope you feel better. :)
This is very general illnes of women. There is noting to worry. Do YOGA. It is totally the effect of gas. Take some fruit juice and dry fruits for two weeks regularly. Avoid oilish dishes. Everything will be fine. Don't forget morning walk and avoid bed tea.
