Does a pap smear hurt?

Question:
I'm going tomorrow for my first pap smear and i've been doing research about it. Does it hurt and do you bleed a little afterwards? Serious answers please

Answers:
If you're not sexually active, the intrusion of the scope can be uncomfortable, perhaps even a little painful. What's most important is to relax - relax your muscles, distract your thoughts, it'll be over in a few seconds. And if you're a virgin, it's possible that they're might be a little bleeding, but that's perfectly normal, so don't worry if it happens.

And congratulations! Having a pap smear is one of the most important things a woman can do to stay healthy.

Good luck!

i went for my first almost 3 months ago and i was more embrassed then hurt.
They look at you and decide what size plastic thing to put it you to open it to see. If youve had 2 kids theyll use a biger on. But i didnt havce any so they used the smalles one and it didnt hurt that bad and i didnt bleed ata ll. i wasnt sore afterwards either.

A pap smear shouldn't hurt. It is a little uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt. I have never experienced any bleeding after, but everybody is different. Your doctor will explain everything to you. Just relax, everything will be fine. No it does not hurt, I have never bled before. Its more uncomforatable then anything, and it is over with pretty quickly!

If you bleed it is just minor spotting that will go away that day. That's even if you bleed. They really don't hurt. They're a little uncomfortable, but the process doesn't last long. Having one is a necessity so good for you for scheduling one!

ALITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE AND KINDA HURTS ALITTLE TOO. JUST BE CLAIM AND TAKE DEEP BREATHS AND DON'T BE SO SCARED IT IS REAL FAST.

If your doc knows what they are doing, it shouldn't feel like much. If the "duck lips" feel too big, ask them to use smaller ones. If you are nervous, the muscles can tighten and make it uncomfortable. They scrape cells off your cervix and insert a tiny little thing in the cervix to get cells and that can be a little uncomfortable. In general, it's just a little uncomfortable.

If it is uncomfortable, make them stop and relax. And find a doctor who knows what they are doing. My first gyno was terrible and that was painful, my new gyno is brilliant and I barely notice a thing.

It's not as bad as you think. I was terrified when I was about to have my first pap smear, but I was making a much bigger deal about it than it was. It's fairly quick and obviously a little uncomfortable. But it's something that you'll need to do throughout your life. Especially if you plan to have children someday. On a scale of 1-10 .10 being awful and 1 being nothing, it's a 2. Good luck and dont worry yourself ,it will be over before you know it.
