will pcos show up in a pelvic exam?

Question:
If someone had poly cystic ovarian syndrome, would the gyno. notice it during a routine checkup? I think that the ovaries are larger if you have pcos, so if they felt that, wouldnt they suspect it?

Answers:
I would get a lab tests dones which can reveal this or, cat scan, ultrasound or MRI of the pelvis for more detail - definately. A pelvic exam can miss a lot of things because it depends on who is doing it. A human is much more likely to miss something (busy with schedule, too routine) than a thorough test would be. Always get a second opinion.

this is one exerpt from it: "No single test can show that you have PCOS. Your doctor will talk to you about your medical history, do a physical exam, and run some lab tests. You may also have an ultrasound scan of your pelvis. http://www.webmd.com/hw/womens_conditions/tw9110.asp?printing=true

Acting sooner than later seems to be vital with this so make an appt immediately! Good luck !

Other Answers:
IF PALPITATIONS ARE DONE, I AM SURE IT WILL BE NOTICED, BUT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, LET THEM KNOW SO THEY CAN DO AN ULTRASOUND, SO IT CAN BE TREATED
yes
I was actually doing some reading about this. From what I read I would not chance leaving it all up to my doctor to find it. If you have the time, try to read a few books or articles, check the internet. Go to your doctor with a list of symptoms or anything you have been experiencing. This will help guide your doctor in what to look for. One more thing, many of the symptoms for PCOS are shared with a couple other things. So just make that list as you remember questions or symptoms and try to get the best treatment you can. Good luck.
I don't think it would show up in a regular exam. I was checked for it and what they did it was hormone level tests and an intravaginal ultrasound. hope this helps you out.
Pelvic exam is not the surest way to diagnose pcos.My wife has pcos, the doctor make the diagnosis through USG from vagina the description is the ovaries are slightly larger the usual with string of pearls appearances of unmatured ovums.
Probably what they will feel is that the ovary is atrophied or shrunk.
Yes they will find out if you do through the palpation but dont leave it all up to the doctors make sure you look it up on the internet and in books. And if you have questions like that then talk to the doctor about it so they will pay attention to it ok.
