My doctor said that sometimes a womans bladder drops and causes leakage?

Question:
Has anybody had this happen and what did they do to fix it. My doctor suggested surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Answers:
I am a nurse that takes care of gyne patients. When you have a dropped bladder that is causing leakage, your doctor may want to do a bladder tacking or bladder lift. When they do this, they lift your bladder back into its normal position, and secure it back into place by "tacking" it into the muscle in your lower pelvic region. It works in the majority of cases. Some women have a more severe case and require more extensive surgery. I actually work with 3 other nurses that have had this done, and it worked well for them.
There are medications that may help, but if the bladder is being squished by the other muscles/organs in the low abdomen, then it may not work for you. Only your doctor can decide. Ditropan, Detrol and Detrol XL are common bladder medications that are sometimes prescribed for women such as yourself.
Hope this helped.
Sometimes with pregnancy the bladder does drop, especially if several pregnancies were close toegether and your body didn't get to get back in shape good before the next baby. The dr can put a few stitches in to tack it up and I think it is best to do it now and not wait until you are older. It will only get worse. Best wishes!
