what causes overian cancer even when the pap smear didnt show it?
Question:
Answers:
A papsmear is performed on the cervix (opening of birth canal) and screens for cervical cancer. A dye is put on the cervix which stains abnormal cells if they are present- if present, then a tissue sample of the abnormal cells are sent to the lab to visualize them under the microscope and see if the cells are cancerous. Cervical cancer has been found to be caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). This is different from ovarian cancer, which is in the ovaries, and for which a causal link has not been found.
Since a papsmear test does not go near the ovaries, it is entirely possible for a woman with ovarian cancer to have a normal papsmear.
Hope this helps!

What causes ovarian cancer?
We do not know what causes it. Some women who have it also have a family history of cancer. But most do not.
Some women are more likely than others to get this rare cancer. They include women who are past menopause, who have never been pregnant, or who have never used birth control hormones.
They have linked ovarian cancer to a kiind of STD. Look this information up on the web. Yahoo search 'std/ovarian cancer
