Difference between an OB OB/GYN and family doctor?

Question:
Can you just be an OB or just a GYN or do you have to be both

Answers:
You don't have to practice both at the same time if you don't want to. Any one who practices OB will also do GYN stuff in the office (pap smears, etc), but many GYNs don't deliver babies, such as GYN ONC, who only deal with cancer or GYN endo, who deal with the endocrinology of the femal reproductive system.

Other Answers:
Some specialize in being one or the other or do both. As far as I know you don't have to do both. The OB/GYN may have decided to do both so as to be able to attract patients who might want to continue with their OB as a gynecologist after the birth of their child. The GP is a general practice doctor who has not taken a specialization.
A GYN without the OB does not deliver babies. Usually an OB is also a GYN. A family doctor takes care of all types of illnesses and sometimes also does the OB/GYN duty in small towns. In large cities, there are more specialists and less family doctors.
