If I start birth control not in the first 24 hrs of my period or even when I'm on it at all.is it effective

Question:
Why do you have to start it on you period to begin with?Except for making it so your cycle can snyc up with the pill/patch.

Answers:
If you start taking it on the first day of your period you don't need to use extra protection from day one. If you start mid cycle then you need to use a condom for 1 week.
You should always start the pill the Sunday after your period......even if you are still on it......but the pill is not completely effective until you have taken it for one solid month, so I suggest he use a condom for the first month to avoid any chance of pregnancy. Best wishes.
