Everynight around bedtime I break out in hives, what is causing it and how to I prevent it?
Question:
I am a 21 yr old female. This has been going on for about a year. It happens every night.
Answers:
When you have an allergic reaction to a substance, histamine and other chemicals are released into your bloodstream, causing itching, swelling, and other symptoms. Hives are a common reaction, especially in people with other allergies like hay fever. Many substances can trigger hives:
Medications
Shellfish, fish, nuts, eggs, milk, and other foods
Pollen
Animal dander (especially cats)
Insect bites
Hives may also develop from:
Infections like mononucleosis or illness (including lupus, other autoimmune diseases, and leukemia)
Emotional stress
Extreme cold or sun exposure
Excessive perspiration

The exact same thing happened to me a year ago. The hives lasted for about six months. I couldn't figure out exactly what was going on but I knew it had to be an allergic reaction to something. Sure enough, I finally figured out that I was breaking out due to a medication that I had recently started taking. Once I got off that drug, my hives cleared right up.
Until you figure out what's causing the hives, I would suggested taking an antihistamine like Benadryl. Or if that medication makes you groggy you could always use Claritin Hives Relief. You can find it in the First aid section of your local drug store. It works just as well as Benadryl but without the drowsiness.
where are you before bed? on your couch, do you have a cat do you pet them on your lap and carry them under your arms and do they rub against your feet?? They say hives are not cause by allergies. Take some benadryl and see how that works or put on histamine cream. If they dont go away in 2 weeks I would go to a doctor!
