How many types of Yoga are there?

Question:

Answers:
There are probably nearly as many styles of yoga as there are teachers. Every teacher brings his/her own special blend of training, influences, and interests to the class. Some of the more popular styles are..

Anusara- known for it's emphasis on good alignment and a heart centered practice
Mysore- a flowing (or vinyasa) style with a set sequence of poses that you practice at your own pace
Vinyasa- a catch all term for a style in which one pose moves directly into the next in a flowing style
Hatha or Classical- catch all terms for classes that emphasize careful alignment and holding poses for a period of time
Iyengar- a classical style founded by BKS Iyengar, promoting careful alignment and starting with standing poses as the foundation or your practice
Bikram- a flowing style practiced in a hot room to release toxins
Ashtanga- a vigorous flowing practice that practices the same sequence of poses as Mysore but in a group

And there are others. I'm sure an internet search could turn up a least a dozen other styles.

Namaste!
