Did they really have to use material Rags back in the day?

Question:
Did woman really have to use rags back in the day on their period and have to hand wash them out?

Answers:
My mother remembers her first pads were a long strip of (dsposable) pad that was tied to a belt (no groovy stick-on stuff in those days). So we haven't been using the white thin stickon pads for very long, and women have used some sort of cloth for hundreds of years.
well, I guess literally since the begining of time!

im not sure but i know you can get that answer on google.

Yes. That's what they told us at Franklin Court (Philadelphia). I had to sit through that same boring trip three times. Also the reality show "Frontier House" had to explain that to the women. Or so my mother said of her mother, Yes.

Yep.Modern conveniences like tampons and store bought pads had to start somewhere. It's not like people who didn't have running water, or indoor toilets had pads and tampons. It's the same with diapers..used to have to hand wash them also. Wasn't that big of a deal, that's just the way things were, better than going without.

Yes. They sure did. They used cloth rags and washed them out and then reused them as necessary.

Yes.

Some women even used Sponges!! They carried a little sponge around in a bag and whenever they went to the bathroom, they soaked up whatever blood was there.. Then they rinsed off the sponge and went on their merry way.

What we have now is sooooo much better. And sanitary!
