What are your thoughts on the new vaccine for Cervical cancer being given to pre to mid-teen females?
Question:
Answers:
This is the best age group to give it to because it is a 'vaccine', meaning it will prevent cervical cancer in these girls when they become sexually active.
It is important to understand how the vaccine works to understand why this is the age group they are targeting. This vaccine works by preventing the woman from contracting the Human Pappiloma Virus, commonly known as genital warts. Genital warts have a strong link to cervical cancer. So by preventing women from contracting the warts, they significantly reduce the risk if cervical cancer.
Back to the pre and mid teens. They are looking at this group as most of these girls are not sexually active. IE. they don't have warts yet. Once a woman contracts warts the vaccine will no longer be of any use. So by vaccinating young girls, they are protecting them before they can come to any harm.
It's just a shame it's too late for the rest of us!
As for the Christian groups, I think it is time for them to realise that their ideals and moral don't apply to the rest of us. If they choose to be abstinent, good for them. I'd rather live my life my way.
And by the way, what happens if a virgin woman marries a man with warts and they want to have kids? Does she then have to run the risk of CANCER because she loves the man?
Other Answers:
A brilliant idea, to eradicate a common cancer.
SHOULDNT BE DOING ANYTHING TO GET THE STDS THAT CAUSE IT! One of the best things you can do for them if you love your kids.
the initial trials are extreamly promising. If I was younger or if I had a daughther I would give the vaccine to her. Remember when you have sex with someone you are not just having sex with that one person but are having sex with his past partners and their partners and so on and so on. One way of protecting yourself.
wonderful.. wish it was around when I was younger.
I wouldn't let em us my daughter as a guinea pig! they think a whole lot of things are safe until they start using them widescale, and discover how harmful they are. Look at all of those drug recalls in the last few years! I will take my chances and trust in God not drugs. lol Obviously it's a good thing. Your question seems to imply you think people might consider it controvertial. I assume because kids shouldn't be having sex so they shouldn't need it? Well, lets see. pre-marital sex. cancer. pre-marital sex. cancer. pre-marital sex. cancer. That's a tough choice - I can see where it might be controvertial. But personally, I'm of the opinion that whatever your opinions about having kids having sex, it's still best if they don't get cancer.
I think the recommendation is for age 9 and up. By treating women before they are sexually active, we can greatly decrease cervical cancer. I think it is a GREAT step forward in the fight against all cancers.
For those of you that are skeptics..what about the teen that is raped? Does she deserve to get cancer later in life?
I think it's a good idea. I just saw a question by someone else similar to this. Young teens and pre teens don't have to know what all this vaccine prevents. It is supposed to prevent cervical cancer right? That's all they need to know.
